FOCUS

Physical dimensions in the performing arts

CORPoREAL is an inter-artistic-pedagogical research platform, founded in 2014 at the Royal Conservatoire of the AP University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Antwerp. It supports, develops and disseminates research on physical and experiential processes and knowledge in the performing arts (music, drama and dance).

MISSION

Fundamental to CORPoREAL is the unlocking of scientific, artistic and pedagogical knowledge about the artistic embodied experience in art and society.

CORPoREAL explores the aesthetic, cultural and educational values and possibilities of knowledge in this field for the artist and society. We do this in numerous short and long-term projects.

Our research team brings together extensive expertise not only within dance, drama, music and arts education, but also within (practice-based) scientific research, inclusion, philosophy, psychology, performance art, visual arts, and so on.

Becoming a researcher?

Research and doctoral projects supported by CORPoREAL aim to innovate, broaden or deepen artistic and scientific knowledge and practice. Our projects and doctorates are always firmly embedded in the School of Arts of the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp.
